Origins of Museum Africa: What is Kemet?

Km.t (also known as Kemet) is one of the names for Ancient Egypt. The word itself means the black place or the black land.
Kemet soil is known to be the more fertile soil the desert soil of other Egyptian lands. In that respect, the name is used as a reference to black soil that was eroded from Central Africa by the Nile River.
In reference to Km.t people, the word Kemet is used to describe the people who lived in the black, fertile land of the country.
Here’s the dilemma though:
·      Some scholars differ on the origin of the word though—scholars like Raymond Faulkner believe the word was derived from the land, the dark soil of the region.
·      Others like William Leo Hansbery and Aboubacry Moussa Lam claim that the word was derived from the skin color of the people of the region.
So whose side are you on? The word—Kemet—a reference to the land or the people?

  1. I think that the word Kemet refers to the land and the people. It was obviously an African civilisation and provided the basis upon which other civilisations progressed and flourished. For this reason, it is important to study this magnificent civilisation and also to accurately identify it as an African civilisation built by African people, culture and knowledge. Therefore, a close study of Kemet will provide a better appreciation for the genius that Africa offered to and shared with the whole world.

    1. That is a huge fat no! Egyptians were a very mixed race and if you actually studied Egyptian history instead of saying they were all black you would know better. It's afrocentric nonsense. They were not white nor were they black african either. They were a mixed race people after having been conquered so many times by the hyksos who were an asiatic people, then the persians, then the greeks and romans. The pharoahs often had foreign wives including mittani princesses. They also had semetic blood because of canaanites settling in Egypt as Egypt borders their land during ancient times and still does particularly in the northern sinai area. Learn to live and know they are a mixed race and always were.

  2. This is interesting in that there is a downplay on the African Culture of the Egyptians, yes it is amazing what the people of antiquity created and much has been stolen and reclaimed by non-africans but the fact of the matter is Km.t is the land of the perfect black. Hetep!!!!!

  5. The White man lies (the Kheftiu), and is in the process of white washing black imagery, white women lie but the statues of Kemet DON'T lie!!!!!!!

The ancient people of Kemet were black long before white people ever existed. If you want to hate, hate Yakub for bringing white people onboard who came with their diseases, rapes, brutality, lies and their concept to destroy everything and taking credit for things they did not create.

White people call the contribution of Black Kemet as myths, yet they stole everything from Kemet, even your bible has stole everything from Kemet. Many of you forget that Kemet was and still is located in Africa (which is a hellenized version by the damn Romans!).

Because so many black people are distracted by white people and their trickery, many have and want to defect to being white by bleaching their skin and looking and talking like them.

This concept should be the reverse. Just like with the Kemet people white people are still stealing the imagery and creativity of Black Life and rewriting it as their own. This is why the truth about black origins is important. Think about it, if white people created the world, they would be able to dance with rhythm!
